The Law of Karma

“How people treat you is their Karma; how you react is yours.” –- Wayne Dyer

Here is one of the Universal Laws which is totally misunderstood. When most people think of karma they think of payback, revenge and retribution.  We even have slogans that tells us: “Karma is a bitch.”  The implied assumption of the phrase is that it is about someone else’s behaviour.  In today’s world, we use the word karma to relinquish our responsibility for our own vibration. So what exactly is the Law of Karma?
Also known as the Law of Identical Harvest, it is the reaping of the seeds you have sown.  These seeds can either be associated with negative or positive experiences in your life.  Karma is not necessarily about behaviour, it more about vibration.
This is why some people will say, “I am a good person and I don’t understand why I keep attracting all this crap in my life.”  The experiences you attract are coming to you because somewhere or at sometime in your life you have attached yourself to beliefs, thoughts and emotions that are now attracting like vibrations.  It is the Law of Attraction in action.  You get what you focus upon or what you give out.
To add further confusion with the word karma, there are those who define karma in relation to past lives. You are poor in this life because in a past life you foolishly squandered your abundance.  You are rich in this life because in a past life you were poor and virtuous.  You were cruel to someone so now someone is being cruel to you.  The current preoccupation with past life regression has led some to believe that they must now must explore the various lives they have lived and correct some wrong in this life.  The problem with this theory of thinking is if we are eternal beings and you have lived over 400 lives, which life are you choosing to focus upon?
There is only now.  The thoughts you are thinking, the emotions you are feeling and the words you are using all pave the way for what you experience.  You are responsible for everything that comes into your life.  Quit concerning yourself with past lives and yesterday’s dramas.  It is this moment in time that you create your reality.  If you don’t like what you are experiencing right now, choose another state of being.  Choose a new way of thinking.
If you perceive that someone has wronged you in some way, and you are continually focused on that episode in your life, you will continue to create the same situation.  In wishing that someone else will incur the wrath of retribution, you are locking yourself into a negative pattern.  Everything in life is just an experience.  In your garden of life, are you planting flowers or weeds?
